The same authors of play.orchestra made a new sound installation in the public space. This time they installed 21 musical swings in front of the Science faculty of the Montreal University. The installation is nicely designed, the swings have different colors and illumination to be more attractive during the night.
Each time that a people swings, a note or a sound are played. To make it more interesting they designed the installation so that some sounds will only emerge from the cooperation of the participants. The rhythm is naturally controlled by the swinging speed. This creates a nice audio-visual dynamic as you can see and heard what is happening in the space. The result is a collaborative melody, in which each participant is literally “the beat”.
The project is a playful installation which brings life to the public space and encourages the citizens to interact. According the authors:
The project stimulates ownership of the new space, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds, and creating a place for playing and hanging out in the middle of the city centre.
