We are traffic is an ongoing photo project that portraits Hamburg’s bicycle riders. The project was started in October 2012 by Björn Lexius and Till Gläser, to show the importance of the bicycle as means of transport, stress that the urban cyclists are also “traffic”, and present the bicycles as part of the collective identity of the city. Because they think that Hamburg is not a bicycle friendly city, Björn and Till hope to raise awareness about the situation of the bicycle collective, by giving a face to this collective.
Their archive has already reached more than 100 pictures and they would like to publish those portraits in a book dedicated to the bicyclist of Hamburg. Besides the awareness that the book pursues to raise, it should be also a showcase of the freedom associated to urban cycling. To finance the publication they need about € 15.000. They are currently raising the funds trough crow funding. If you want to make a donation please follow this link.
Apart from the publication, they have a truly beautiful website, featuring the photographs taken. What I like the most is the truly personal touch that every photograph has. Their internet site truly shows the rich diversity of the bicycle collective and helps to demote the common prejudices held against the urban cyclists. They work is truly worth a visit, so take a look by yourself!.
